Location 

Hell’s Gate National Park is a unique and picturesque park situated in the Great Rift Valley, northwest of Nairobi (approximately 2 hours drive). The park is adjacent to Lake Naivasha and is part of the larger Rift Valley landscape.

Scenery and Features

The park is named after a narrow break in the cliffs that forms a small gorge known as Hell’s Gate. The gorge is characterized by towering rock formations, geothermal hot springs, and steam vents. The landscape within the park includes dramatic cliffs, volcanic rock formations, and savannah grasslands.

Fisher’s Tower is a prominent volcanic rock formation that is situated within Hell’s Gate National Park. The scenic geological features of the tower make it an iconic landmark. The Olkaria Geothermal Station is situated near Hell’s Gate National Park and It’s one of the largest geothermal power stations in Africa that utilizes the natural heat energy stored beneath the Earth’s surface to produce electricity in an eco-friendly manner.

Hot springs 

Hell’s Gate National Park is home to spectacular natural hot springs that are popular attractions within the park. Hot springs include;

Obsidian cave

Obsidian caves are part of the park’s scenic features. Obsidian caves were formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago. Obsidian, a naturally occurring volcanic glass, is abundant in the area and the caves contain deposits of shiny black rocks. Obsidian caves offer a fascinating site for geologists and nature enthusiasts.

Wildlife

Hell’s Gate National Park is home to a variety of wildlife species that allow tourists to see different animals in a unique and breathtaking setting.

Some of the wildlife includes African buffalo, giraffe, zebra (both plain zebra and Grevy’s zebra) antelope (Impala, Grant’s gazelle), hartebeest, baboon, leopard, hyena, lion, cheetah.

Birds

The park is a rewarding destination for ornithological enthusiasts with over 100 species some of which include; vultures, Verreaux’s eagle, gherkins, and common swifts.
