Safari Day 1: Departure from Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve
  • Early morning departure from Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve (approximately a 5–6-hour drive) across the equator.
  • Arrive at the lodge/camp for check-in and a delicious lunch.
  • Embark on a thrilling afternoon game drive in Samburu National Reserve known for its unique wildlife including the Reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, and the Somali ostrich.
  • Return to camp/lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Safari Day 2: Samburu Game Drives
  • This day begins with an early morning game drive to catch wildlife at its most active, focusing on the unique species of Samburu.
  • Return to the lodge/camp for hot breakfast and relaxation.
  • Optional activities such as guided nature walks or visits to a Samburu village.
  • Return for lunch at your lodge.
  • Embark on a thrilling afternoon game drive tracking specific animals.
  • Return to your camp/lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Safari Day 3: Samburu to Aberdares National Park
  • Depart from Samburu after breakfast for Aberdares National Park (approximately 4-5 hours’ drive). Aberdares National Park is famous in that it's where Princess Elizabeth discovered that she was to be a queen upon her father's death. The park is well renowned for its rugged mountainous landscape and wildlife such as the African elephant, lion, leopards, antelope, and the second-biggest herd of black rhinos.
  • Arrive at the Aberdare County club at the base of the ranges. This is the base hotel for the Ark Lodge. A tour guide from the Ark Lodge will pick the guests and drop them off back the following morning after breakfast.
The Ark Lodge is a world-famous and one of Kenya’s must-do experiences, built to resemble Noah’s Ark. It floats amid the forests of the Aberdare National Park, joined to the world by its own wooden drawbridge. The Yasabara Waterhole, meanwhile, attracts animals from all over the park, notably large herds of elephants.

Safari Day 4: Aberdares National Park to Lake Nakuru National Park
  • Depart from Aberdares for Lake Nakuru National Park (approximately a 3-4 hours’ drive) stopping to view the towering majesty of Thompson’s Falls along the way at Nyahururu.
  • Arrive at Lake Nakuru in time for lunch and check-in at the hotel/Lodge. There are various options available, including lodges and budget hotels, catering to different budgets and preferences.
  • Enjoy an afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park famous for its bright pink flamingos and rhino sanctuary. There are about 350 different species of birds; e.g. the Ornithological Paradise.
  • Explore the mysteries of black and white rhinos till evening.
  • Explore the park's different habitats, which include the lake, woodlands, and open grasslands, providing opportunities to spot a variety of wildlife such as rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and antelopes.
  • As the sun begins to set, capture the beautiful scenery and wildlife against the backdrop of Lake Nakuru.
  • Return to the hotel/lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Safari Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park to Nairobi
  • Wake up early to catch the sunrise and embark on a morning game drive. Early mornings are a great time to spot wildlife, as animals are often more active during this time and the park is less crowded.
  • Enjoy a picnic breakfast at a scenic spot within the park, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature.
  • Proceed for a game drive in the Rhino sanctuary, home to a colony of about 25 white and black Rhinos. Predators are also resident in the park.
  • Bid farewell to Lake Nakuru National Park and begin your journey back to Nairobi.
  • Hot lunch is served on your way back arriving in Nairobi in the afternoon. Drop off at your hotel or airport.

Essential Travel Tips for Your East African Adventure

Clothing On Safari

Make sure you pack different layers of clothes. During the day temperatures may vary and wearing different layers makes it easy to quickly adapt to weather changes. Pack protective clothing against the sun and mosquitoes. Also don’t forget your swimming clothes and a poncho and/or a raincoat to stay dry during unexpected rain showers.

Sunglasses

Sunglasses are another essential item to pack for a safari in Kenya. The sun can be pretty harsh, so protecting your eyes from the glare is necessary. We recommend packing a pair of polarized sunglasses that will reduce glare and provide 100% UV protection.

Hat

A hat is a must-have item when going on a safari in East Africa. Not only will it protect you from the harsh sun, but it will also keep your head cool and prevent mosquito bites. We recommend packing a wide-brimmed hat to provide maximum protection against the sun. A baseball cap or visor will do the trick if you don’t have a wide-brimmed hat.

Insect Repellent

Remember to pack insect repellent! Mosquitoes are everywhere in Kenya, so protecting yourself from bites is essential. Pack a strong insect repellent that contains at least 30% DEET. Apply the repellent liberally all over your body, especially in areas where mosquitoes are known to bite, such as the ankles, wrists, and neck.

Single Use Plastic

The import of plastic is banned in several countries in East Africa. When traveling, ensure you don’t carry plastic bags or other disposable plastic items. We fully support this change and recommend you bring your drinking bottle to refill with the water we provide on your safari. If you have any questions about which items are allowed in the country of arrival, do not hesitate to ask us!

Although not mandatory, tipping is an expression of your gratitude and appreciation for your guide and other staff making your safari more memorable.
