The Amazing Explorer Budget Safari

Masai Mara National Reserve- Lake Nakuru- Lake Naivasha

The world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve is the crown jewel of Kenya’s tourist attractions, providing visitors with a kaleidoscope of rugged untouched landscapes and all manner of wildlife, big and small. Lake Nakuru is one of the renowned East African Rift Valley lakes, with its alkaline shallow waters attracting over 400 species of birds including African Fish Eagles, Pelicans, and Pied Kingfishers. Located within the greater Lake Nakuru National Park, it serves as a sanctuary for Eastern black rhinos, Southern white rhinos, and the endangered Rothschild giraffes among other members of the Big 5. Lake Naivasha, on the other hand, is a freshwater lake that features a huge number of hippos and birdlife and is home to the famous Crescent Island, which was featured in movies like Tomb Raider, Out of Africa, and many more. The island is also home to the Kongoni, elands, zebras, and giraffes among other animals, and with the absence of predators, it’s possible to walk around and get up close to the animals.

Essential Travel Tips for Your East African Adventure

Clothing On Safari

Make sure you pack different layers of clothes. During the day temperatures may vary and wearing different layers makes it easy to quickly adapt to weather changes. Pack protective clothing against the sun and mosquitoes. Also don’t forget your swimming clothes and a poncho and/or a raincoat to stay dry during unexpected rain showers.

Sunglasses are another essential item to pack for a safari in Kenya. The sun can be pretty harsh, so protecting your eyes from the glare is necessary. We recommend packing a pair of polarized sunglasses that will reduce glare and provide 100% UV protection.

A hat is a must-have item when going on a safari in East Africa. Not only will it protect you from the harsh sun, but it will also keep your head cool and prevent mosquito bites. We recommend packing a wide-brimmed hat to provide maximum protection against the sun. A baseball cap or visor will do the trick if you don’t have a wide-brimmed hat.

Insect Repellent

Remember to pack insect repellent! Mosquitoes are everywhere in Kenya, so protecting yourself from bites is essential. Pack a strong insect repellent that contains at least 30% DEET. Apply the repellent liberally all over your body, especially in areas where mosquitoes are known to bite, such as the ankles, wrists, and neck.

Single Use Plastic

The import of plastic is banned in several countries in East Africa. When traveling, ensure you don’t carry plastic bags or other disposable plastic items. We fully support this change and recommend you bring your drinking bottle to refill with the water we provide on your safari. If you have any questions about which items are allowed in the country of arrival, do not hesitate to ask us!

Tipping on safari

Although not mandatory, tipping is an expression of your gratitude and appreciation for your guide and other staff making your safari more memorable.
