3 Days Mara Mid-range Safari

The Essential Mara Mid-Range Safari

  • Depart from Nairobi to the legendary Masai Mara; one of Africa's most renowned wildlife reserves (approximately 5-6 hours drive).
  • Enjoy a scenic drive as you marvel at the stunning landscapes and wildlife sightings along the way. Including the picturesque Great Rift Valley. This geological marvel offers stunning vistas of vast plains, escarpments and panoramic views, with a stopover at viewpoints along the way to capture breathtaking photographs and soak in the beauty of the surroundings. Hand-made souvenirs may be bought here from local artisans as they regale you with myths and legends about how the Rift Valley came to be.
  • Arrive in time to check in and enjoy a sumptuous lunch at your camp/lodge in Masai Mara.
  • Venture out for an afternoon game drive, encountering lions, cheetahs, hartebeests, wild-beasts and other iconic wildlife like the majestic elephants, the powerful buffaloes, the graceful zebras and hippos. The animal kingdom in Masai Mara is awe-inspiring. Masai giraffes, baboons, warthogs, bat-eared foxes, grey jackals, and spotted hyenas add to the vibrant tapestry of life. A memory that will last a lifetime.
  • Return to the camp for a delicious dinner, where you can share stories of your wildlife encounters with fellow adventurers and an overnight stay.
Kairi Tours and Safaris owns Rhino Tourist Camp- an amazing yet affordable budget tented camp near the Oloolaimutia gate of the Masai Mara National Reserve.

  • Explore different areas of the reserve, each offering unique wildlife sightings and stunning vistas.
  • Take a break for a bush picnic lunch amidst the wilderness, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature.
  • Stop by the Mara River which is the center stage of the 8th wonder of the world and witness the Great Wildebeest Migration (occurs every year from July-October).

Essential Travel Tips for Your East African Adventure

Clothing On Safari

Make sure you pack different layers of clothes. During the day temperatures may vary and wearing different layers makes it easy to quickly adapt to weather changes. Pack protective clothing against the sun and mosquitoes. Also don’t forget your swimming clothes and a poncho and/or a raincoat to stay dry during unexpected rain showers.

Sunglasses are another essential item to pack for a safari in Kenya. The sun can be pretty harsh, so protecting your eyes from the glare is necessary. We recommend packing a pair of polarized sunglasses that will reduce glare and provide 100% UV protection.

A hat is a must-have item when going on a safari in East Africa. Not only will it protect you from the harsh sun, but it will also keep your head cool and prevent mosquito bites. We recommend packing a wide-brimmed hat to provide maximum protection against the sun. A baseball cap or visor will do the trick if you don’t have a wide-brimmed hat.

Insect Repellent

Remember to pack insect repellent! Mosquitoes are everywhere in Kenya, so protecting yourself from bites is essential. Pack a strong insect repellent that contains at least 30% DEET. Apply the repellent liberally all over your body, especially in areas where mosquitoes are known to bite, such as the ankles, wrists, and neck.

Single Use Plastic

The import of plastic is banned in several countries in East Africa. When traveling, ensure you don’t carry plastic bags or other disposable plastic items. We fully support this change and recommend you bring your drinking bottle to refill with the water we provide on your safari. If you have any questions about which items are allowed in the country of arrival, do not hesitate to ask us!

Tipping on safari

Although not mandatory, tipping is an expression of your gratitude and appreciation for your guide and other staff making your safari more memorable.
